AI and Social Work is a personal initiative by Sergei Oudman. I develop this platform together with a small, dedicated team of colleagues and partners. The costs and subscriptions are solely intended to cover ongoing development costs, hosting, and the use of AI models.
Welcome to AI and Social Work. This platform was created by Sergei Oudman to help professionals in the social domain engage with artificial intelligence in meaningful and ethical ways. AI and social work represent a powerful combination that can enhance professional practice while maintaining ethical standards. I am a Lecturer and Researcher at Hanze University of Applied Sciences and I teach courses on ethics, human rights, international law, international relations, and AI. I also coordinate the internationalisation at the Social Academy there.
Besides that I serve as the president at CIRIS and deal with human rights issues and conflicts on a daily basis. AI has a tremendous effect on the mechanisms of power, be it from institutional control, economic resources, soft power, information and may undermine democracy. It is and can be regarded as a force multiplier that can be used by different actors.
This project was born out of a need I observed in both the classroom and the field: many professionals want to understand how AI is changing their work, but they lack the tools and frameworks to engage critically with these technologies. This website is designed to bridge that gap.
Through practical tools, case studies, and reflections, AI and Social Work supports professionals in developing the skills and critical thinking needed to work confidently and responsibly with AI. Whether you're just getting started or looking to deepen your understanding, this site offers resources to guide you. It constantly evolves and I improve it with the help of the feedback I get from the stakeholders.
The platform is made possible by a network of partners from different countries, contributing to its international perspective and relevance.
